FIFTH STRAIGHT LANDMARK CHAMPIONSHIP! No. 9 Women's Soccer Defeats Lycoming 3-0 to Win Landmark Title

SCRANTON, PA -- The top seeded University of Scranton women's soccer team blanked second seeded Lycoming College 3-0 to capture the program's fifth straight Landmark Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.

The Basics
  • Final Score: No. 9 Scranton 3, Lycoming 0
  • Records: No. 9 Scranton (17-1-2), Lycoming (15-3-3)
  • This marks the 11th Landmark Championship victory in program history and 10th title under the guidance of head coach Colleen Pivirotto.
  • With the victory, Scranton has secured the Landmark's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. 
How it Happened
  • The Royals scored just over five minutes into the game as junior Morgan Griffin ripped a volley into the top left corner of the net, leaving Lycoming's goalie Riley Block no chance. 
  • Three minutes later Scranton scored again as graduate student Mary Haggerty received a pass from senior Samantha Goffice and perfectly placed a shot into the far left corner of the goal. 
  • Graduate student Niamh Healy added a third goal for the Royals in the 80th minute as she received a through ball from freshman Molly Martys and beat out Block to put Scranton up 3-0. 
Top Performers
  • Griffin's game-winning goal earned her MVP honors. 
  • Healy recorded her 14th goal of the season which leads the conference by five. 
  • Haggerty scored her fifth goal of the year and now ranks tied for second on the team with 14 points. 
  • Senior goalie Nicole Olson and the Scranton back line allowed just one shot on goal and earned their 14th shutout win of the year. 
Inside the Box Score
  • The Royals out shot Lycoming 32-7 in the contest. 
  • Scranton held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks over the Warriors.
