Kranson Reaches 1,000 Career Points as No. 3 Women's Hoops Posts Dominant 100-41 Victory at Goucher

BALTIMORE, MD -- The University of Scranton women's basketball team defeated Goucher College 100-41 in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Final Score: No. 3 Scranton 100, Goucher 41
  • Records: No. 3 Scranton (8-0, 4-0 LC), Goucher (5-3, 1-3 LC)
  • This marks the second time this season that Scranton has reached the 100-point mark.

How it Happened

  • Goucher jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Royals went on their own run shortly after. Junior Kaci Kranson got Scranton on the board after converting on two free throw attempts, graduate student Kyra Quigley tied the game when she took a pass from junior Kaeli Romanowski and scored on a layup and then Quigley found Kranson who put up another layup to put Scranton ahead 6-4. 
  • On their next possession, Goucher grabbed two offensive rebounds and scored on a pull up jumper, tying the game at six apiece.
  • Scranton went back in front, this time for good, with 6:21 to go in the first as Romanowski found Kranson in the paint who put up a layup to give the Lady Royals an 8-6 advantage. 
  • Scranton outscored Goucher 15-10 the rest of the quarter, with Kranson leading the way during this run with nine points and sophomore Meghan Lamanna adding her first four points of the game to give Scranton a 23-16 lead going into the second quarter.
  • Scranton exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Gophers 21-2 in the frame. 
  • The Lady Royals began the scoring in the quarter with a quick steal and score from Romanowski, followed by a layup from Lamanna on the Royals next possession.
  • With 4:55 left in the quarter and the Royals ahead by 13, sophomore Elizabeth Bennett found a wide open Lamanna who drained a three to make the score 32-16.
  • Goucher scored their only basket of the second on a layup with 4:31 to go in the first half, and the Lady Royals finished the quarter on a 12-point run, capping off a huge second quarter with a steal from Romanowski and graduate student Allie Lynch's buzzer beating layup to give Scranton a 44-18 lead into halftime. 
  • The Lady Royals went on an 18-5 run through the first 5:15 of the third quarter. Lamanna connected on a three-pointer and sophomore Katie Gorski grabbed a defensive rebound and drilled a three herself on back-to-back possessions as the Lady Royals extended their lead to 62-23.
  • Bennett scored on a layup to end the third quarter with the Royals on top 79-30.
  • Freshman Marisa Francione began the fourth quarter with her first points of the game, making a layup to increase the lead to 51.
  • Scranton continued to add on in the fourth as freshman Lizzie Halligan drained a three pointer, followed by a steal by freshman Selena Cieszko on the next Goucher possession that turned into two points as senior Ashlyn Bender made the layup to push the lead to 88-33.
  • On Scranton's final offensive possession of the game, Cieszko scored the Royals 100th point of the contest on a layup as the Lady Royals went on to win 100-41.

Top Performers

  • Kranson collected her 1,000th career point in the game, leading the way with a season-high 28 points, eight rebounds, and two assists.
  • Lamanna finished with 12 points and four boards.
  • Romanowski tallied six points and led the team with five steals.
  • Gorski added 10 points and six rebounds.

Inside the Box Score

  • Scranton's defense forced 28 turnovers, 21 of which were steals, leading to 36 offensive points for the Lady Royals.
  • The Lady Royals were 53% from the field, while the Gophers shot 27%.
  • Scranton dished out 27 assists, while Goucher had 3.
