ITHACA, N.Y.
– The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team fought hard but Ithaca's seven-goal third quarter proved costly as the Royals dropped a 13-9 decision to the Bombers on Sunday afternoon at Higgins Stadium in Ithaca.

Junor Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) posted a career-high seven goals for the Royals, while junior goalkeeper Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) finished with 13 saves in the setback.

Scranton led 3-2 at half before Ithaca was able to take a 9-5 lead with the afore-mentioned third quarter.

The Royals jumped out to the early lead at the 7:39 mark of the first quarter with Lane scoring her seventh goal of the season to make it a 1-0 game. Senior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) extended the lead with a goal of her own with 1:15 left in the first quarter.

Ithaca would get on the board with back-to-back goals to open the second quarter and tie the game at two apiece. At the 1:31 mark, Lane scored again giving the Royals a one-goal advantage going into halftime.

Lane opened the scoring in the third quarter with a goal assisted by senior Erin Reich (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side), giving Scranton a 4-2 lead. The Bombers responded with two goals themselves to tie the game, but Tanajewski would score her second goal of the game a minute later to put the Royals back in front.

Ithica went on a scoring run to end the third quarter with five goals in a row that created a 9-5 advantage going to the fourth.

Despite Lane scoring four more times in the fourth quarter, Ithaca had a response each time, securing the win.

For Lane, her career-high seven goals surpasses her previous career-high of six that had been set on Mar. 14, 2023 at Haverford.

Tanajewski scored twice while Reich led the Royals with four ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers in the loss.

The women's lacrosse team is back in action Saturday at home against Haverford College at Weiss Field with action slated to get underway at 1 p.m.
