ORLANDO, FL -- The University of Scranton women's tennis team picked up a 6-3 win over Illinois Wesleyan in its spring opener at the USTA Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida on Monday afternoon.
Graduate Student
Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa. / Hazelton Area) went 2-0 on the day to pace the Royals in the victory.
Doubles
- In No. 1 doubles, the team of Nowak and junior Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J. / Bernards) won by a score of 8-3.
- The No. 3 doubles match saw the team of junior Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J. / Kingsway Regional) and senior Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa. / Honesdale) cruise to victory with an 8-0 win.
Singles
- Nowak defeated Olivia Bell of Illinois Wesleyan in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3 to earn her second win of the day for the Royals in No. 2 singles.
- Sophomore Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y. / Minisink Valley) picked up a win for Scranton at No. 4 singles as she defeated Raji Moore 6-4, 6-1.
- At No. 5 singles, junior Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Kennedy Catholic Prep) cruised to victory with sets of 6-1, 6-1.
- Senior Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J. / Union Catholic) won the No. 6 singles match for Scranton with sets of 6-3, 6-0.
The women's tennis team returns to action tomorrow at 10:00 AM for a Landmark Conference match against Susquehanna in Orlando, FL.
