STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Graduate student Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area) tied the program's doubles wins record and The University of Scranton women's tennis team (10-7) closed out the regular season with a 7-2 victory over East Stroudsburg (1-13) on Sunday at Wolbers Courts in Stroudsburg.
Nowak and freshman Gisele Falzone (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Scranton Prep) rolled to an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles and junior Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional)/senior Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) posted an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Scranton won the No. 3 doubles match via forfeit to take the early 3-0 lead.
The doubles victory was the 53rd of Nowak's illustrious career, which matches the program and Landmark Conference record that is shared by Julia Frattaroli (2014-18) and Emilia Jakubek (2015-19).
In singles play, freshman Kyleigh McNulty (Bay Shore, N.Y./St. Anthony's) notched a 7-5, 6-3 victory over the Warriors' Alessia Bianchini at the second flight and junior Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) defeated Sherin Paul with a straight set 6-1, 6-4 decision at the third flight.
Scranton won both the fifth and sixth singles matches via forfeit to secure the victory.
The Royals will host Wilkes in a Landmark Conference quarterfinal on Tuesday afternoon at the Royal Courts with action slated to get underway at 4 p.m.
