SCRANTON, Pa. – Freshman Myles McCutcheon (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) scored five goals for the third time in four games and The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team (5-6, 3-0 Landmark) used a dominant first half to cruise to a 24-6 victory over the Lycoming Warriors (2-5, 0-3 Landmark) on a chilly Wednesday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton.
A total of seven different players registered multi-goal games for the Royals as the 24 goals marked a season-high. The 24 goals were also the most the Royals have scored since a 24-8 win over Drew on Apr. 12, 2023.
Senior Matthew McAree (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) opened the scoring at the 12:30 mark of the first quarter and McCutcheon struck just a few minutes later off a feed from junior Liam Sayre (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep). Later in the quarter, McCutcheon and seniors Alex Eglitis (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and Seamus O'Callaghan (Bethpage, N.Y./Chaminade) all scored in a span of 1:26 as Scranton built a 5-0 lead. O'Callaghan added two more goals over the final 3:43 of the quarter and the Royals held an 8-0 advantage. In the second quarter, McCutcheon and sophomore Kyle Holmes (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) each notched a hat trick and the hosts took the dominant 18-0 advantage into the locker room.
The freshmen duo of Dean Hiltsley (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and James Lavarra (South Huntington, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) recorded two goals apiece in the second half as the Royals rolled to a third straight victory.
McCutcheon led the way offensively for Scranton with five goals, while Eglitis, Holmes and O'Callaghan added a hat trick apiece in the victory.
Freshman Ronan Miller (Oxford, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and junior John O'Connor (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) collected a team-high eight ground balls apiece.
In goal for the Royals, sophomore Declan Allen (Garden City, N.Y./Millbrook) did not allow a goal in 30 minutes of action.
Scranton will host rival Catholic in a Landmark Conference clash on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field with action slated to get underway at 2 p.m.
