WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team (8-2, 3-0 Landmark) overpowered Lycoming College (4-5, 0-2 Landmark), winning 19-8 on the road Wednesday night at UPMC Field at Keiper Stadium in Williamsport.
Ten different Royals scored a goal including senior Erin Reich (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) who tallied three goals and reached the 100 career goals mark in the win. Reich became the 18th player in program history to hit the milestone.
It was Reich who opened the scoring in the contest, doing so at the 13:19 mark of the first quarter and giving the Royals the 1-0 advantage. Senior Devyn Tanajewski (Ringwood, N.J. / Lakeland Regional) followed her classmate with back-to-back goals of her own, extending the Scranton lead to 3-0.
After two Lycoming goals got the Warriors within one, junior Molly McCarren (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and Tanajewski both added a goal apiece, quickly putting the Royals back ahead by three. The Warriors would tack on another goal with just seven seconds to go in the first quarter, however, and the Royals held a 5-3 lead entering the second quarter.
Freshman Jillian Lopez (Sayville, N.Y. / St. Anthony's) opened the scoring in what would be a dominant second quarter where the Royals would outscore the Warriors 7-1. Reich scored her second of the game next, and following a Lycoming goal at the 13:48 mark, the Royals went on a five-goal run to end the quarter, taking a 12-4 lead into halftime.
Head coach Chrissy Trescavage's team continued to play well into the second half, outscoring Lycoming 5-2 in the third quarter. In this third quarter, Reich tallied her third goal of the game, the 100th of her career, and junior Catherine McGlynn (Medford, N.J. / Shawnee) scored her first goal of the season as the Royals took a 17-6 lead into the fourth.
The Royals were able to close things out in the fourth quarter, winning their fifth straight game. They tied a season-high 19 team goals, matching the mark set last Thursday in a 19-3 victory at home against Goucher.
The trio of Reich, Tanajewski, and junior Grace Lane (Long Beach, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy) each posted hat tricks, while Lopez led the team with four ground balls and five draw controls while also scoring twice. In goal, junior Lauren Boldis (Merrick, N.Y. / Sanford H. Calhoun) posted three saves and sophomore Eva Guerino (Hopewell, N.J. / Pennington School) made two saves.
Scranton is back in action with a Landmark Conference Championship game rematch on Saturday against Catholic in Washington, D.C., with action set to begin at 2 p.m.
