Women's Tennis Sweeps ETown on Senior Day

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's tennis team (6-6, 4-1 Landmark) rolled to a 9-0 victory over the Elizabethtown Blue Jays (5-5, 1-5 Landmark) on Saturday at Birchwood Racquet Club in Clarks Summit.

In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of graduate student Lily Nowak (Freeland, Pa./Hazleton Area)/junior Daniella Wisniewski (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards) notched an 8-1 victory and freshman Gisele Falzone (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Scranton Prep)/junior Brigid O'Mara (Pleasantville, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) recorded an 8-2 victory at the second flight. Senior Lydia Grossman (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale)/junior Julia Nocentino (Mantua, N.J./Kingsway Regional) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over the Blue Jays' Gabriella Palladini/Adriana Burmeister.

Nowak cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Olivia Richards in No. 1 singles and Wisniewski added a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Haley Bishop in No. 2 singles play. Falzone posted a 6-3, 6-3 win of her own in third singles and sophomore Olivia Sirico (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) notched a 6-4, 6-1 decision at fourth singles.

Sophomore Paige Hunt (West Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) rolled past ETown's Morgan Bleicher by a 6-1, 6-1 count in No. 5 singles and senior Maddy Abood (Plainfield, N.J./Union Catholic) rounded things out with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Katie Balzano in No. 6 singles.

With the victory, Nowak now sits in sole possession of second place all-time in program history with 48 singles victories and is two away from breaking the program record. The Hazleton, Pa., native also sits third all-time with 50 doubles wins and is four away from surpassing the record.

Prior to the match, the Royals honored the senior and graduate student members of the team in Abood, Grossman and Nowak for their contributions to the program.

Scranton will host Wilkes in a Landmark match on Tuesday afternoon at the Royal Courts with first serve set for 4 p.m.
