Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Brennan, Healy Carry Women's Soccer Past Stockton in 2-0 Victory

UNION, N.J. – Graduate student Niamh Healy (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee) tallied a goal and an assist as The University of Scranton women's soccer team (2-0) notched a 2-0 victory over the Stockton Ospreys (0-1-1) on Saturday at Kean Alumni Stadium in Union.

Healy nearly got the Royals on the board in the 26th minute with a shot that rang off the crossbar and fellow graduate student Mary Haggerty (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) saw her shot also deflect off the crossbar in the 30th minute. Seconds following Haggerty's shot, Healy gathered possession and fired a shot past Stockton keeper Morgan Keil for a 1-0 lead. Senior goalie Nicole Olson (Stoughton, Mass./Ursuline Academy) turned away a shot from the Ospreys' Katie Ambos in the 39th minute to preserve the one-goal lead going into halftime.

Scranton began to mount pressure offensively in the early stages of the second half and sophomore Alexis Ocasio (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) nearly found the back of the net in the 53rd minute, but the shot was cleared off the goal line by a Stockton defender. Healy sent a pass into the box in the 64th minute and junior Katie Brennan (Bohemia, N.Y./St. John The Baptist, DHS) was able to finish off the opportunity to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Royals' back line put together an impressive effort in the shutout win and held the Ospreys to just three shots over the final 20 plus minutes.

For the game, Scranton held a 15-6 advantage in shots led by four from Haggerty and Olson tallied three saves to notch her second shutout in as many games.

The Royals will host Vassar in the team's 2024 home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m. at Weiss Field.
