Schechter Scores First Career Goal As Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw Against Vassar

SCRANTON, PA -- Sophomore Faith Schechter (Boonton, N.J.) scored the first goal of her career at Scranton as The University of Scranton women's soccer team (2-0-1) earned a 1-1 tie against Vassar Collge (2-0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field.

Scranton threatened early as graduate student Emily Tantala (Langhorne, Pa. / Neshaminy) forced an early save out of Vassar goalkeeper JD Reigrut in the sixth minute of action. The Brewers responded with a chance out their own in the 10th minute but senior goalkeeper Nicole Olson (Stoughton, Mass. / Ursuline Academy) made the save for Scranton.

Freshman Lena Madjor (Hamilton, N.J. / Notre Dame) had a shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but Reigrut stopped the effort. The game remained scoreless at halftime.

Tantala had another shot saved in the 54th minute as the Royals continue to press the action in the offensive third. In the 74th minute, junior Liv Enderle (Sparta, N.J. / Sparta) played a long ball into the box that found the head of Schechter who flicked it over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to give Scranton a 1-0 lead.

Enderle had a chance of her own in the 83rd minute, but had her shot saved by Laura Shea. Maddie Wolf of Vassar converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute to tie the game up at 1-1.

The contest finished in a 1-1 draw. Scranton out shot Vassar 15-11 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Olson made four saves in the game while graduate student Niamh Healy (Orangeburg, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) led the Royals with four shots.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday at Penn State Berks at 7:00 PM.
