Abraldes, Redding Lead Field Hockey to 3-2 Victory Over Stockton

SCRANTON, Pa – The University of Scranton field hockey team won its fourth straight game after defeating Stockton University by a score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field. 

The Basics

  • Final Score: Scranton 3, Stockton 2
  • Records: Scranton (5-1); Stockton (1-4)
  • The win moves Scranton to 6-1 all time against the Ospreys.

How it Happened

  • With 4:37 to go in the first, senior Lauren Franco connected with graduate student Bridget Abraldes, who tipped it past Stockton's goalie Erika Roura, giving the Royals the early 1-0 advantage.
  • Just two minutes after the Abraldes goal, Stockton responded with the equalizer as Carlee Thompson found the back of the cage to tie the game at one apiece.
  • In the middle of the second quarter, the Royals retook the lead when graduate student Katie Redding took a feed from senior Reagan Dolan and buried the shot.
  • Scranton added to their lead early in the third quarter when Abraldes and Redding connected again, this time it was Abraldes redirecting a ball from Redding to extend the lead to 3-1.
  • With just two seconds on the clock in the fourth quarter, Stockton earned a corner attempt and found the back of the cage on a deflection from Carlee Thompson, but it was not enough as time expired and the Royals hung on to win 3-2.

Top Performers

  • Redding registered one assist and one goal, the 57th goal of her career, tying the program record previously set by Denise Atkinson in 1985.
  • Abraldes led the team with two goals, her first two goals of the season.
  • Franco tallied two assists.
  • Senior goalie Julie Rogel made five saves
