NEW YORK, NY -- The University of Scranton volleyball team dropped a pair of tight matches against Colby College and New York University on Saturday afternoon.
Match #1 (L/2-3 vs. Colby)
The first four sets were split sending the match to a fifth set. With the Royals down 8-6, Colby went on a 7-1 run to close out the match
Senior
Gianna Detorie posted a match-high 29 assists for the Royals. Senior
Erin Keaveney led the Scranton attack with 15 kills, while junior
Deanna Whelpley added 14 kills. Junior
Camryn Hoffman recorded 20 digs in the match.
Match #2 (L/1-3 vs. NYU)
Scranton cruised to a first set win (25-21) before dropping the second set (25-16). NYU won the tightly contested third set (26-24) and closed out the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.
Detorie had another strong showing for Scranton with a team-high 21 assists. Whelpley paced the Royals' attack with 12 kills, while Hoffman posted a team-best 14 digs.
The Royals are back in action tomorrow against William Paterson University with action set to get underway at 10:00 AM.
