NEW YORK, NY -- The University of Scranton volleyball team dropped a hard fought match against William Patterson University on Sunday morning at New York University.
The Basics
- Final Score: 3-0 L, (25-16, 27-25, 25-23)
- Records: Scranton (4-5), WPU (4-5)
How it Happened
- The Royals dropped the first set to the Pioneers 25-16. Senior Katherine Denitz had 3 kills in a row to lead the scoring for the Royals in the first set.
- In the second set, the Royals scored four straight points to come back from a four-point deficit (20-16) and tied the set 21-21. Scranton's momentum created a 24-22 lead, but the Pioneers came out of a timeout to tie the game at 24-24 before claiming the set (27-25), as well as a two-set advantage.
- The Royals and Pioneers traded points in a close third set, but William Patterson ultimately held on to finish the game, winning the set 25-23.
Top Performers
- Senior Sophia Hadjiyane led the game in kills, tallying 11, while classmate Erin Keaveney followed closely behind with nine.Â
- Senior Gianna Detorie recorded three service aces, tying William Paterson's Cecelia Miller for the game lead.Â
- Junior Camryn Hoffman finished with 15 digs to lead the Royals.
Inside the Box Score
- Scranton led the first set in kills (10-8), but attack errors proved costly to the Royals, as they lost 12 points from errors to the Pioneers. The Royals would end up leading the game in kills (40-33) as well as errors (27-15).
- Scranton also led the game in assists (38-32) and digs (56-55).

The Royals will travel to SUNY Geneseo for a double header with the host school at 12:00 p.m., followed by a match with Clarkson University at 2:00 p.m.
