GENESEO, NY -- The University of Scranton women's volleyball team defeated both SUNY Geneseo and Clarkson University in three straight sets to earn two victories Saturday afternoon at SUNY Geneseo.
Match #1 (W/3-0 vs Geneseo)
The Royals began the day with a 3-0 win over the Knights. Freshman Danielle Kramer led Scranton in kills with 9, senior Gianna Detorie led the game in assists with 19, and senior Kaelie Chung recorded 4 aces for the Royals.
In the first set, the Royals scored seven straight points to defeat the Knights 25-17. Geneseo threatened Scranton's momentum in the second set, but the Royals held on to win 25-20 and take the two-set advantage. The Royals completed the sweep, winning the third set 25-22.
Match #2 (W/3-0 vs Clarkson)
Scranton defeated Clarkson University 3-0 to end the day with a perfect record. Junior Deanna Whelpley led the game in kills with 13, with senior Sophia Hadjiyane closely behind with 12. Junior Camryn Hoffman led the Royals in both aces (5) and digs (12).
The Royals won the first set 25-22, despite a comeback effort by the Golden Knights. Back-to-back kills by senior Erin Keaveney and freshman Kassidy Means ended the second set in which the Royals won, 25-21. Scranton scored eight straight points in the third to finish the Golden Knights, 25-17.
The Royals will return home for the Electric City Invite next weekend. Action is slated to begin Friday at 7:00 p.m. against Wesleyan University.
