SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton field hockey team cruised to a 5-0 victory over Moravian University and earned its sixth consecutive win in the first Landmark Conference match up of the season on Saturday at Weiss Field.

The Basics

  • The win moves the Royals to 25-7 all time against the Greyhounds, and they are 12-2 since 2010.

How it Happened

  • Graduate student Elle Collins had her initial shot blocked by Moravian's goalie Maia Machado, but she grabbed the rebound and capitalized on the second opportunity to score, finding the back of the cage and giving Royals the 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the season for Collins.
  • Four minutes into the second quarter, it was graduate student Katie Redding who fired a shot from the top of the circle that got past Machado to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • The Royals added another goal in the closing minutes of the second quarter when Redding tapped in a cross from her classmate Bridget Abraldes for her second goal of the afternoon.
  • In the 7th minute of the third quarter, it was Redding and Abraldes who teamed up once again for the Royals. After Abraldes forced a turnover at midfield, she connected with Redding out in front, who then returned the pass, allowing her classmate to finish the play with her first goal of the game.
  • With a few minutes left to go in the contest, the Royals extended their lead to 5-0 as Abraldes sent a pass through the Greyhounds' defense to sophomore Maddie Slavin, who was in front of the cage and buried the shot for her first career goal.
