SCRANTON, PA -- Senior Reagan Dolan's third quarter goal powered The University of Scranton field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over No. 18 Ithaca College on Tuesday night at Weiss Field.

The Basics

  • Final Score: Scranton 1, Ithaca 0
  • Records: Scranton (8-1); Ithaca (5-3)
  • This is the seventh consecutive win for Scranton and their third straight shutout.
  • This was the first time the Royals have defeated Ithaca since 2007.

How it Happened

  • The Bombers brought the pressure early against senior goalie Gianna Travia and the Royals' defense, earning a corner within the first two minutes of the contest, but the Royals defended it to perfection to keep the game scoreless.
  • Scranton earned their first corner at the top of the second quarter, but they were unable to score as the Bombers defense made the stand.
  • Within the first minute of the second half, after sophomore Maggie Keys had her shot blocked by Bombers' goalie Maeve Clark, junior Annie Shaw flicked a pass to Dolan inside the circle, and she snuck it past Clark to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
  • Ithaca College's lone shot of the quarter by Ainsley Grant was saved by Travia, one of her two saves on the night.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Bombers had several opportunities to tie the game, but the Royals defense was once again up to the task. With a minute to play and Ithaca quickly moving downfield, junior Emily Gallagher got a piece of a loose ball to slow down the Ithaca attack. A few moments later, junior Kiera Lamb cleared the ball toward midfield, forcing the Bombers to reset offensively.
  • Ithaca increased the pressure even more with under a minute to go, earning two corner attempts, but their first shot was blocked by graduate student Bridget Abraldes, and the second shot was wide to end the game.
