Men's Soccer Battles Back to Earn 2-2 Draw at No. 10 Cortland

CORTLAND, NY -- The University of Scranton men's soccer team battled back from a two goal deficit in the second half to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw at No. 10 SUNY Cortland on Saturday evening.

How it Happened
  • Cortland scored the opening goal of the game in the 44th minute as Mateo Marra had his shot deflected into the back of the net to put the Red Dragons up 1-0 headed into halftime. 
  • Marra scored again for Cortland in the 73rd minute as he converted a penalty kick. 
  • Less than a minute later, the Royals earned a penalty kick which was converted by senior captain Ciaran Corr who buried his shot into the upper left corner to bring Scranton within one goal of Cortland.
  • Junior Tyler Colton found the late equalizer for Scranton in the 88th minute as he received a pass from sophomore Matt Capretto and ripped a shot past the outstretched arms of the Cortland goalkeeper. 
Top Performers
  • Corr's goal marked his third of the season to lead all Royals.
  • Colton picked up his second goal of the year.
  • Junior goalkeeper Charlie Smith made four saves in the tie.
