Men's Hoops Falls to Drew in Landmark Contest, 95-67

SCRANTON, PA – The University of Scranton men's basketball team fell in Landmark Conference action against Drew University on Wednesday night at the John Long Center with a final score of 95-67. 

The Basics

  • Final Score: Drew 95, Scranton 67
  • Records: Drew (15-3, 11-0 LC), Scranton (9-9, 4-7 LC)

How it Happened

  • Scranton started the game with a quick mid-range shot from freshman Sammy Tornabene after Drew gave up possession in the offensive zone, 2-0.
  • Senior Cameron Khoza found classmate Will McLoughlin on a cut to the hoop for an easy layup, cutting Drew's lead to three at 13:46.
  • Tornabene scored four quick points for Scranton as he hit a jump shot and threw down a dunk off a turnover from Drew to get the Royals within two points at 11:02. 
  • Tornabene found Khoza in the left corner to drain a contested three-pointer to get the Royals within four points at 6:12.
  • Senior Mason Thompson stopped Drew's 7-0 run with a layup to get the Royals within eight at 2:53, but Drew responded with eight unanswered field goals. 
  • Drew scored a layup with eight seconds left to end the first half and led 49-33 at the break. 
  • McLoughlin found junior Jon Spatola in the paint who scored a contested layup.
  • Spatola grabbed an offensive rebound at 16:04 and eight seconds later drilled a three off an assist from Tornabene. 
  • Drew answered with a 10-2 in the middle of the second half. 
  • The Rangers went on to win by a final score of 95-67. 

Top Performers

  • Tornabene scored a season-high 17 points to lead Scranton.
  • McLoughlin added 12 points, six assists, and four boards.

  • Scranton went 50.9% from the field and 44.4% from three-point range. 
  • Drew scored 45 points from behind the arc.
