McLoughlin & Spatola Lead Men's Hoops to 90-63 Win Over Goucher

SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton men's basketball team earned a 90-63 win over Goucher College in Landmark Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the John Long Center. 

The Basics
  • Final Score: Scranton - 90, Goucher - 63
  • Records: Scranton (10-9, 5-7 LC), Goucher (4-15, 3-9 LC) 
How it Happened
  • Goucher started the game off strong with a 7-0 run, forcing Scranton to call a timeout at the 17:22 mark in the first half.
  • After trailing 14-6 at the 14:07 mark, the Royals went on an 14-0 run to take a 20-14 lead. Junior Jon Spatola scored eight points during the run. 
  • Scranton went on an 8-0 run late in the opening half to go up 30-18 with 3:16 remaining. 
  • Senior Will McLoughlin with six straight points to give Scranton a 39-24 advantage at halftime. 
  • Spatola and graduate student Tahaj Parland scored back-to-back layups to open up the second half and put the Royals up 19. 
  • Freshman Max Lebisky put Scranton up 22 with a pair of buckets in the paint at the 16 minute mark. 
  • The Royals went on a 7-0 run midway through the second half to take their largest lead of the game, 69-40 with 7:38 remaining. 
  • Scranton's bench kept things rolling to close out the game as sophomore Brendan Carr and junior Luca Baratta each hit late threes. 
Top Performers
  • McLoughlin led the way for Scranton with 20 points and eight boards.
  • Spatola stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals. 
  • Freshman Sammy Tornabene scored in double figures for the seventh straight game with 10 points. 
  • Senior Cameron Khoza hit three three pointers for nine points. 
Inside the Box Score
  • Scranton had 15 steals and recorded 25 points off of turnovers. 
  • The Royals scored 56 points in the paint compared to just 22 for the Gophers. 
  • Scranton won the battle on the glass, 36-32.
