BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's track and field team posted a strong season-opening performance at the Mountain Hawk Opener hosted by Lehigh University this weekend, earning multiple top-eight finishes, a race victory, and several early-season personal bests.
The Royals showcased depth across sprints, mid-distance, and field events, highlighted by a first-place finish from junior William Dickson in the 200.

Sprints:
- Dickson led the way with a commanding win in the 200 meters, stopping the clock at 22.53 to secure 10 points for Scranton. Freshman Luciano Fiorenza added an eighth-place finish in the event at 23.29, while sophomore Matt Hirsch placed 10th in 23.44.
- In the 400 meters, sophomore Brian Hard posted a strong early-season performance, finishing second in 53.29, followed closely by freshman Vincent Nola, who took fourth in 53.64. Sophomore Ronan Feenan added a personal best 55.71, good for seventh place.
Mid-Distance:
- Freshman Luke Karcutskie opened his career with a sixth-place finish in the 500 meters (1:11.49), while senior Brendan Perez also scored with an eighth-place time of 1:12.90.
- Junior Daniel Lanahan turned in a fifth-place effort in the 1,000 meters, running 2:46.94.
Hurdles:
- Three Royals scored in the 60-meter hurdles final, with freshman Joseph Castellano leading the group in sixth (9.04). Sophomore Peter March finished seventh (9.40) and sophomore Cade Santos placed eighth (9.51).
Field Events:
- Freshmen William Kennedy and Kyle Jarrett earned 11th and 12th in the long jump, landing marks of 5.76m and 5.74m, respectively.
- In the throws, sophomore Ryan Kennedy led Scranton in the shot put with a mark of 11.65m, while senior Aedan Potenza followed at 11.35m.
- Potenza also recorded a personal best in the weight throw at 12.11m, placing 13th.
Relays:
- Scranton closed the meet with a strong showing in the 4x400-meter relay, placing second, third, and fourth with times of 3:30.27, 3:40.47, and 3:43.17, respectively.
