SCRANTON, PA. - The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team fell 14-8 to SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon at Weiss Field in Scranton, Pa.
The Basics:

How it Happened:
- Cortland won the opening face off and immediately scored to take a 1-0 lead just seven seconds into the contest.
- The Royals responded 1:03 later as sophomore Myles McCutcheon picked up the loose ball in front of the goal, spun and ripped it past Cortland goalie Travis Wagner to even the score at 1-1.
- The Red Dragons retook the lead at the 12:45 mark, but Scranton had an answer again, as junior Kyle Holmes took a feed from classmate Pat McCormack and ripped a one hopper past Wagner to even the score at two apiece at the 10:19 mark.
- Scranton took their first lead of the game 2:04 minutes after the Holmes goal, capitalizing on a man-up opportunity. This time, it was Holmes who connected with McCormack who ripped a behind the back shot into the net to give the Royals a 3-2 advantage.
- Cortland's Sean Kavanagh stung the top right corner of the net and tied the game at 3-3 with 2:56 to go in the first.
- Junior Quinn Carson put Scranton back in front at the 1:09 mark, ripping a shot through traffic and bouncing it into the back of the net, giving the Royals a 4-3 lead.
- Scranton added another goal on their first possession of the second quarter as the Royals converted on another man up opportunity when junior Jason Kozak scored his first goal of the day to extend Scranton's lead to 5-3.
- After sophomore Carsen Kirchner made a save on the Red Dragons' first shot of the possession, Kole Stuver grabbed the rebound and scored to cut the deficit back to one goal.
- McCormick and Holmes continued to roll in the first half on offense for Scranton, as McCormick drew two defenders and then found Holmes who drilled the shot to put Scranton ahead 6-4 with his second goal of the game.
- Cortland responded quickly with its fifth goal of the contest 52 seconds later to cut the Royals' lead back to one, and then with just 15 seconds left in the first half, the Red Dragons tied the game at 6-6.
- The Red Dragons outscored the Royals 4-0 in the third quarter, and they opened the fourth quarter with three straight goals to extend their lead to 13-6.
- Senior Riley Kahill and McCormack both scored once in the final two minutes of play to cut the deficit down to five, but Cortland scored one more time with 37 seconds left to go and the Red Dragons held on to win 14-8.
