Scranton to Add Men's Volleyball in 2026-27

The University of Scranton is excited to announce the addition of men's volleyball as an intercollegiate sport. The team will begin competing in the 2026-27 academic year, following the appointment of the program's first head coach.

The addition reflects Scranton's ongoing commitment to expanding athletic opportunities and enhancing the student-athlete experience.

"Adding men's volleyball aligns with our goal to provide a diverse and dynamic student-athlete experience," said Executive Director of Athletics Dave Martin.  "We're eager to see the energy and opportunity this new program will bring to our campus."

Lycoming College, another member of the Landmark Conference, plans to add men's volleyball in the 2026-27 academic year – a move that will allow the conference to begin sponsoring the sport with six competing teams.

University President Rev. Joseph G. Marina, S.J. praised the addition, stating, "Men's volleyball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, and we are thrilled to join the momentum. This new program will not only expand our athletic offering but also create new opportunities for student engagement and strengthen our connection with the broader community."

Home matches will take place in the John Long Center, located in the heart of Scranton's campus.

Men's volleyball is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing sports in the country. Currently, 132 NCAA Division III schools sponsor men's volleyball programs, and the sport is gaining significant momentum at the high school level, with over 60,000 student-athletes competing across 2,500 high schools nationwide.

This surge in popularity highlights the growing demand for collegiate men's volleyball opportunities. Recognizing this trend, Scranton is proud to announce the addition of men's volleyball, a timely and strategic move aligned with national growth in the sport.
