ALLENTOWN, PA -- Sophomore Lydia Bechtel scored the game-winning goal in overtime as The University of Scranton field hockey team defeated Muhlenberg College 3-2 at Scotty Wood Stadium on Friday evening.

- This is the second year in a row that the Royals have beaten Muhlenberg in overtime to open their season.
How it Happened
- Muhlenberg's offense threatened in the second minute of the game, however, freshman goalie Mariselle Camillone made her first career save to keep the game scoreless.
- After sophomore Shana Goldsmith sent a pass into the circle, a Muhlenberg defender's attempt to clear it was intercepted by junior Maddie Slavin who gathered the ball and snuck a shot past the keeper to put Scranton ahead 1-0 with 6:35 left in the first period.
- The Mules evened the score ninth minute of the second quarter to tie the score at 1-1.
- Muhlenberg grabbed its first lead of the game just over 10 minutes into the third period to take a 2-1 advantage.
- With just under five minutes to play in the game, Goldsmith flicked a pass to junior Annie Shaw, who buried the reversal shot to tie the game at 2-2.
- In the first minute of the overtime period, junior Maggie Keys recovered a kick save from Muhlenberg's goalie and fired a shot toward the cage that sophomore Lydia Bechtel deflected into the back of the cage for the game-winner.
