SCRANTON, PA -- The University of Scranton field hockey team won an offensive battle against SUNY New Paltz, 4-3, to earn its second straight victory to begin the 2025 season.

How it Happened
- New Paltz got the scoring started in the second minute of the game as Miranda Britton found the back of the cage to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
- Just 1:20 later, Britton scored again, putting New Paltz ahead 2-0.
- Junior Ava De Natale grabbed a deflected ball and was able to sneak a shot past the diving Hawks' goalie to get the Royals on the board with 8:02 left to go in the first quarter.
- The Royals tied the game just 1:57 after De Natale's goal when sophomore Shana Goldsmith jumped in front of a defender's pass and scored after making a move around the diving keeper to even the score at 2-2.
- Scranton took its first lead of the afternoon 5:23 into the second quarter as De Natale redirected a ball from Goldsmith for her second goal of the game.
- New Paltz tied the game at 3-3 with just 1:50 left in the first half.
- With 1:14 left in the third quarter, senior Annie Hohl scored her first career goal when she deflected a loose ball into the cage to give Scranton a 4-3 lead.
- New Paltz threatened with a corner attempt with just 33 seconds left in the game, but Scranton's defense stood strong, holding on to win 4-3.
