Scranton Men's Swimming Sweeps Wilkes and LVC in Tri-Meet

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's swimming team delivered a dominant performance in a tri-meet against Wilkes University and Lebanon Valley College on Friday evening, defeating Wilkes, 186–40, and Lebanon Valley, 193–26.

Scranton set the tone immediately in the 200 medley relay, sweeping the top two scoring positions. The A relay of Ethan Kwon, Adrian Agnello, Zach Leonard, and Craig Clarke touched first in 1:41.13, followed closely by the C relay of Jake Brunetti, Max Faybyshenko, Owen Sherry, and KJ Smith in 1:41.85.

The Royals controlled the distance events early, led by Steven Detwiler, who won the 1000 freestyle in 10:34.31. Alex Iannone added a second-place finish in 10:50.47, giving Scranton a decisive advantage. The momentum continued in the 500 freestyle, where Will Tagliareni captured first place in 5:00.95, followed by Adrian Agnello in second and Matt Bellach in third.

Scranton continued its dominance in the freestyle events, as Craig Clarke won the 200 freestyle in 1:48.89, with Agnello and Conor Doogan finishing second and third. In the sprint events, Owen Sherry claimed first place in the 50 freestyle (22.46), while Jake Brunetti followed with a win in the 100 freestyle, touching in 48.92.

The IM events highlighted the Royals' depth and versatility. Sam Peters won the 200 IM in 2:03.28, with Bellach finishing second and Tommy Nappi placing third to complete a sweep of the top scoring spots.

Scranton also controlled the stroke events throughout the meet. Zach Leonard captured first place in the 100 butterfly (56.66), Ethan Kwon won the 100 backstroke in 57.02, and Conor Doogan took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.75.

The Royals closed the meet with another strong relay showing, sweeping the top two spots in the 200 freestyle relay. The A relay of Steven Detwiler, Owen Sherry, Zach Leonard, and Matt Sherry won in 1:31.08, while the B relay followed in 1:33.21 to cap a complete team effort.

Scranton will travel to Elizabethtown College tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
