University of Scranton men's soccer junior goalkeeper Justin Scavalla has been named the Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week after helping the Royals post a pair of 1-0 conference shutouts over Lycoming and Elizabethtown.
Scavalla was at his best against Lycoming, where he turned aside a season-high five saves to preserve the 1-0 victory and keep the Warriors off the scoreboard. He followed that performance with another clean sheet against Elizabethtown, adding one more save as the Royals again came away with a 1-0 win to complete the weekend sweep.
For the week, Scavalla recorded six saves and did not allow a goal across two conference matches. With both games decided by a single goal, his steady play in net gave Scranton the margin it needed in each contest.
The two wins lifted Scranton to 8-3-1 overall and 4-0 in Landmark Conference play, and the Royals currently sit atop the conference standings.
