Sophomore goalkeeper Ruby Sorber has been named the Landmark Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week for her performance in No. 18 Scranton field hockey's two victories over Wilkes and Catholic, as announced by the Conference office on Monday morning.
This marks the fourth time Sorber has earned the award this season.
Sorber opened the week with three saves in Scranton's 1-0 shutout victory over Wilkes University at home on Tuesday. The win marked Sorber's seventh shutout of the season and the team's fifth consecutive shutout.
She followed that performance with another three-save outing in a 3-2 victory over Catholic University, securing the top seed in the Landmark Conference Playoffs for the Royals.
In her first season as the starting goalkeeper, Sorber currently ranks tied for ninth nationally with a 0.70 goals-against average and tied for 13th in the country with an .836 save percentage.
Sorber and the No. 18 Royals return to action tomorrow evening for their regular-season finale against Drew University. Game time is set for 7 PM at Weiss Field in Scranton.
