Royal Reflection is a weekly feature highlighting graduating seniors as they reflect on their time and experiences at The University of Scranton. In this first edition, we feature Emily Gallagher of the field hockey team as she reflects on the moments that defined her time here.

Favorite Scranton Memory?

  • My favorite memory at Scranton was winning the Landmark Championship against Susquehanna; it was an unforgettable and defining moment of my time here.

One lesson Scranton Athletics taught you?

  • Scranton athletics taught me that success is not defined solely by winning a Landmark Championship, but also by maintaining balance and prioritizing my personal well-being and academics.

Pregame or pre-competition ritual you will miss the most?

  • A pre-competition ritual I will miss most is driving to Weiss with my teammate and housemate, Annie Coll, while blasting music to get hyped before our home games. I will also miss our team's pregame huddle, where we came together and prepared mentally and emotionally for the competition we were about to face.

Teammate who made the biggest impact on you?

  • One teammate who has made a lasting impact on me is my former teammate, Abbie Hoyle. She helped me realize that field hockey does not define who I am and encouraged me to enjoy the game and remember the passion that led me to play in the first place.

Best advice you've received during your career?

  • Some of the best advice I have received throughout my career is to always remain true to myself while treating both myself and others with respect.

What does being a Royal mean to you?

  • To me, being a Royal means embracing our school's mission to live out the spiritual vision of Saint Ignatius Loyola, uphold a tradition of excellence, and remain committed to the common good.

What are you most proud of from your time at Scranton?

  • Throughout my time at Scranton, I am most proud of my growth as a leader on the field and my ability to bring teammates together. Academically, I kept my priorities in order while serving as President of the Criminal Justice Club and actively contributing to the campus community.

What's next after graduation?

  • After graduation, I intend to continue my academic and professional development in criminal justice by pursuing a graduate degree at Rutgers University.

What surprised you most about yourself this past season?

  • Something that surprised me most about myself this past season was my ability to endure and overcome adversity.

How do you hope to be remembered by your coaches and your teammates?

  • I hope to be remembered by my teammates and coaches as someone who consistently gave her best for the team and demonstrated that tough love stems from a place of commitment and care.
