Royal Reflection: Emily Kane, Women's Diving

Interview Conducted by Athletic Communications Intern Nevaeh Wall

Royal Reflection shines a light on the senior student-athletes who embody what it means to be a Royal. In this edition, we feature Emily Kane of the women's diving team as she reflects on the moments that defined her time at The University of Scranton.

Favorite Scranton memory?

My favorite Scranton memory was winning our third straight Landmark Conference title this past year in the very last event.  It was amazing to watch all of the hard work throughout the season pay off in real time.

One lesson Scranton Athletics taught you?

Scranton Athletics has taught me that the days and practices will come and go, but the lessons you learn and the connections built can last a lifetime.

Pregame or pre-competition ritual you'll miss most?

Listening to the same playlist on the way to every single meet, screaming with my best friends!

Teammate who made the biggest impact on you?

Jeanna Gailius and Kristie Schieck believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself. I would not be the athlete or the person I am today without their leadership and guidance.

Best advice you've received during your career?

Diving can be a very mental sport, standing alone on the end of the board, but my parents always told me that any dive takes "5 seconds of braveness".  Taking the initiative to start the dive and trusting in your ability, even if it's just for a 5 quick seconds, changes everything.

What does being a Royal mean to you?

Being a Royal means being a part of something bigger than yourself. The team culture and the athletic department's culture as a whole set us apart from any other school.

What are you most proud of from your time at Scranton?

I am most proud of my ability to grow both as an athlete and a student. I was able to connect my academic time in classes learning about the human body to time at team lifts and practice, growing an appreciation for the process of growth and resilience in real-life applications.

What's next after graduation?

I will be continuing my education here at Scranton, pursuing an MS in occupational therapy.

What surprised you most about yourself this past season?

I was surprised by my ability to push past the physical and mental challenges of the sport, try new things, and give my all in the last season.

How do you hope to be remembered by your coaches and your teammates?

I hope to be remembered as someone who always gave my best and supported my teammates both in and out of the pool.
