LANDMARK CHAMPS! Scranton Women's Lacrosse Earns Fourth Straight Landmark Title with 16-11 Victory over Catholic

The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team captured its fourth consecutive Landmark Conference Championship with a 16-11 win over Catholic University Saturday at Weiss Field.

With the victory, Scranton joins Catholic as the only program in Landmark women's lacrosse history to win four straight titles.

How It Happened
  • Scranton took the early 1-0 lead 1:37 into the game when Jillian Lopez found the back of the net.
  • The Cardinals answered with a free-position goal to tie the game at 1-1 less than two minutes later.
  • Sophomore Natalie Paul responded quickly for Scranton as she finished a feed from Colleen Mullin to make it 2-1 Royals. Lopez added her second goal of the day 42 seconds later to extend the lead to 3-1.
  • Henley Bredemann scored an unassisted goal goal with 4:41 remaining in the period to get Catholic within one goal.
  • Lopez opened the second period with another goal, completing a first-half hat trick. Mullin then followed with her first goal, assisted by Alexandra Back, pushing Scranton's lead to 5-1.
  • With 9:57 left in the second quarter, Lopez struck again on a free-position attempt. With the goal, the junior broke the program's single-season goal record with her fourth of the game and 76th of the season.
  • Lopez then added her fifth goal of the half 24 seconds later to stretch the Royals' lead to 7-2.
  • After Bredemann scored to pull Catholic within four, Mullin and and Jessica McCabe responded with goals to extend the Scranton lead to six goals. Izzy Fiore tallied a last minute goal for the Cardinals, sending the game to halftime with the Royals ahead 9-3.
  • Scranton opened the third period with a player-up goal scored by Alexandra Back just one minute into the half.
  • Catholic responded with a three goal run to cut the deficit to 10-7. Fiore scored twice and Bredemann scored once to pull the Cardinals within three at the 8:21 mark of the third quarter.
  • Paul halted the run with a goal with 7:16 left in the quarter, assisted by Lopez, and Mullin took a feed from Back and scored as the Royals took 12-7 to the the fourth.
  • The Cardinals opened the fourth quarter scoring with a pair of goals at the 10:08 mark by Ellie Verrill and Tori Wilsey less than a minute later to cut the Cardinals' deficit to 12-9.
  • Mullin answered for Scranton with back-to-back goals, her fourth a fifth goals of the game, pushing the lead back to five.
  • With 4:35 remaining in the game, Allyson Flynn scored on a player-up opportunity, finishing a feed from Grace DiDominica to extend the advantage to six goals.
  • Catholic scored two more times over the final three minutes, but Flynn finished the game with her second of the afternoon with 44 seconds left in the contest to stretch the Scranton advantage to five.
  • Royals' goalkeeper Eva Guerino ended the game with a pair of strong saves, including the 300th of her career, to cap off a 16-11 victory, securing the Royals' fourth straight Landmark title.

  • Jillian Lopez was named Landmark Championship MVP for the second consecutive year, finishing with five goals, one assist, and five draw controls. Her fourth goal of the game was the 76th of her junior season, setting a new single-season program record.
