The University of Scranton women's volleyball team defeated the Misericordia Cougars in a 3-0 season opener sweep at the Anderson Center. The Royals won by scores of
(25-17, 26-24, 25-19), opening the year with a
1–0 record.
How It Happened
- Scranton started the first set on a 7-1 tear, highlighted by a service ace from Freshman Andie Fortmeyer.
- After the Cougars tied the set 11-11, the Royals regained the momentum with back-to-back kills from Freshman Angela Bush, ultimately taking the first set 25-17.
- In the second set, the Royals and Cougars traded points until junior Danielle Kramer recorded a kill that started a three-point run, including back-to-back aces from Senior Cammi Quirk.
- Misericordia closed the gap, but Scranton held the Cougars off 26-24 to take a 2-0 lead.
- In the third set, Sophomore Adria Vargas recorded three of her six kills as Scranton held the lead for the entire set.
- The Royals completed a clean sweep of the Cougars (25-17, 26-24, 25-19).
