Clay Arnold enters his third season as an assistant coach for The University of Scranton men's lacrosse team in 2026.
Scranton captured its third straight Landmark Conference title with a 10-6 win over Elizabethtown and followed that up with an NCAA Tournament game win for the second straight year as the Royals soundly defeated Immaculata 20-8 in the first round. Senior defender Zachariah Palinkas earned Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the year and garnered USILA All-American honors.
2024 saw the Royals capture a second consecutive Landmark Conference title with a decisive 17-6 victory over Elizabethtown in the Landmark title game and the program's first NCAA Tournament victory with a 10-9 overtime win against John Carroll. Both senior attacker Matthew McAree and graduate student defender Colin Pierce earned USILA All-American honors.Â
Arnold joined The University of Scranton from Castleton University where he served as a graduate assistant.
He also made stops at Juniata College where he was the interim head coach for a year and SUNY Oswego where he was an assistant coach.
Arnold played professionally in the PBLA with the New England Chowerhead Player in 2022-23.
He played collegiately at UMASS Boston where he led the team in both goals and points in 2017 and 2018. In 2018 he earned Second Team All-Little East Conference honors and was named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Academic Team. In 2017 he was the NCAA D3 Statistical Champion for highest shooting percentage (61.8%).
In 2015, Arnold won a NJCAA National Championship while playing for Onondoga Community College.
Arnold earned a B.S. degree in Health and Exercise Science from Syracuse University in 2021.
