SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s tennis team received two wins apiece from junior Devon Cohen (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), sophomore Nicole Mahaffey (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity), and freshman Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) to defeat Susquehanna University, 7-2, in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Royal Courts.

It was the Royals’ fourth conference match in eight days.

Scranton, now 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference, also received wins from junior Stephanie Boccuzzi (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and sophomores Megan Azzalina (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) and Lisa-Marie Lanciotti (Northport, NY/Kings Park).

Walsh won her sixth consecutive singles match, downing Brielle Ferlauto, 6-0, 6-2, at the number four spot, after teaming with Cohen to defeat Ferlauto and Jessica Klinger, 8-2, at the number two doubles.  Cohen and Walsh are now 4-4 as a doubles team this season.  Cohen moved to 6-5 in singles this year and 18-22 in her career with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Abby Hess at two.

Lanciotti recorded her third straight victory and improved to 5-2 on the season by downing Claire Smyth, 7-5, 6-1, at six, while Mahaffey is now 5-6 this year and 13-11 in her career after a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ellen Pulsinelle at five.  Azzalina improved to 6-5 on the season and 17-8 in her career with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jessica Klinger at three.

Boccuzzi and Mahaffey played together as a doubles team for the first time this year and emerged with an 8-4 win over Abby Hess and Shelby O’Riley at one.

The Royals will host Wilkes University in a non-conference match tomorrow afternoon at the Royal Courts beginning at 1:00 p.m.
