Results
The University of Scranton men's tennis team will make its
fourth straight appearance in the Landmark Conference championship
match after posting a 5-0 victory over Juniata in a semifinal match
at Royal Courts at DeNaples Fields on Tuesday afternoon.
The Royals will host the championship match against Drew
University on Saturday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at Royal Courts
against. Scranton has fallen to Drew in the championship each of
the past three years, but defeated the Rangers, 5-4, earlier this
season to end their 110-match conference winning streak. Drew
defeated Catholic, 5-2, in Tuesday's other semifinal.
On Tuesday, Scranton received a pair of victories from senior
Bennett Kelley (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley
Central) in the victory. He teamed with senior Devin Patel (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton
Preparatory) for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles, then went
out and posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
The Royals also received a singles victory from junior
James Dalkiewicz (Shavertown,
Pa./Lake-Lehman), who won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-4, to
end the match. The other four singles matches were unfinished.
Senior Tim
McGurrin (Clarks Summit, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and
junior David Teres (Lebanon, N.J./North
Hunterdon) rallied for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.
Seniors Joe Morra (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham
Preparatory) and Mike
Pannone (Maplewood, N.J./Seton Hall Preparatory)
posted an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. The doubles win was the 40th of
Pannone's career.
The winner of Saturday's championship match receives an
automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
