WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Scranton
women's tennis team got off to a slow start, dropping all
three doubles matches, and couldn't catch up in a 6-3 loss at
Catholic University in a Landmark Conference match on Saturday
afternoon.
Scranton (3-5, 1-1 Landmark) received singles victories from
junior Devon Cohen (Ambler,
Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), sophomore Megan Azzalina (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) and
freshman Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton
Preparatory) in the loss.
Cohen toughed out a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, 6-2,
2-6, 6-0, over Catholic junior Elizabeth Harvey (Brightwaters,
N.Y./St. John the Baptist).
Azzalina also won in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), at No. 3
singles against senior Ritamarie Holden (Huntingtown,
Md./Huntingtown).
Walsh defeated Catholic junior Elaina Sceusa (Morganville,
N.J./Red Bank Catholic), 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4 singles.
The victory improved Catholic to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in
Landmark Conference play.
The Royals are back in action on Tuesday, April 9, when they
host Drew University at 3:30 p.m. at Royal Courts at DeNaples
Fields.
