SCRANTON, Pa.—Lebanon Valley scored five consecutive goals
during an 8-minute span midway through the second half and held off
a late rally to defeat The University of Scranton, 12-9, in
women’s lacrosse non-conference action Monday afternoon at
Fitzpatrick Field.
Sophomore Sam Boyce (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) led the Flying
Dutchmen, now 4-2, with three goals and an assist and juniors
Bailey Benz (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Anna Pagels (Hampstead,
Md./North Carroll) and senior Mel Modrick (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill
Valley) scored two goals apiece.
Junior Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown)
paced the Royals, now 1-1, with three goals and seniors Christine Dredger (Glen Head, NY/Our Lady of Mercy
Academy) and Erin
Green (Merrick, NY/Sandford Calhoun) each had a goal
and an assist.
The Royals also received a goal apiece from senior Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional),
sophomore Erin
Allen (Syosset, NY/Our Lady of Mercy Academy), and
freshmen Meaghen
Kerr (Warwick, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) and Nikole Sullivan (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee).
The Royals paid dearly for committing infractions in front of
their own goal during Lebanon Valley’s game-changing run, as
the Flying Dutchmen scored three of their five goals on free
position shots.
Scranton did manage to cut the lead to three on goals by Green and
Dredger late in the second half, but the Flying Dutchmen held the
Royals scoreless over the final 8:06 to hang on for the
victory.
Sophomore Shelby Morris (White Hall, Md./North Harford) made a
game-high 11 saves in goal for the Flying Dutchmen while
Scranton’s Emily
Towey (Abington, Pa./Abington) stopped eight
shots.
With three goals today, Goss moved into a tie for 14th place on
the Royals’ all-time scoring list with 111 total points (103
goals, 8 assists).
Scranton returns to action Wednesday, March 12, against Elmira
College, weather permitting, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
