TOWSON, Md. – Junior Ryan Bair (Leola, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) and freshman Matt Prendergast (Flanders, N.J./Mt. Olive) both had a pair of victories as The University of Scranton men's tennis team opened Landmark Conference play with a 6-3 victory over Goucher on Sunday.
Bair and Prendergast teamed for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles as the Royals (3-2, 1-0 Landmark) swept all three doubles matches. Prendergast earned a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles, and Bair pulled out a 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 victory at No. 5 singles.
Scranton also received a 9-8 (7-4) victory at No. 1 doubles from seniors David Teres (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Brian Williams (Madison, N.J./Madison), as well as an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles from sophomores Kevin Murphy (Greenbelt, Md./Gonzaga College H.S.) and Michael O'Malley (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy).
Senior James Dalkiewicz (Shavertown, Pa./Lake-Lehman) added a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles for the Royals.
Scranton returns to action on Saturday, March 29, when they travel to Madison, N.J. to take on Drew University in a Landmark Conference match at 1 p.m.
