WASHINGTON, D.C. The University of Scranton men's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday when the Royals lost to Catholic, 5-1, in a Landmark Conference semifinal.

Scranton (7-5) could not rally from a 2-1 deficit after doubles, in which Royals freshman Matt Prendergast (Flanders, N.J./Mt. Olive) and junior Ryan Bair (Leola, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) teamed for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Catholic (11-8) then won second, third and fifth singles to secure the five points needed to win the match.

Scranton was making its eighth straight Landmark Conference playoff appearance. The loss snaps a streak of four straight seasons in which the Royals reached the conference championship.
