SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s tennis team didn’t let cold temperatures and high wind gusts keep it from its appointed rounds Saturday afternoon at the Royal Courts.

Behind two wins apiece from juniors Megan Azzalina (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame), Nicole Mahaffey (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity), and Lisa-Marie Lanciotti (Northport, NY/Kings Park) and sophomore Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory), the Royals downed Juniata College, 7-2, to remain undefeated in Landmark Conference play (3-0) and improved to 6-6 overall under first-year head coach Janice Winslow.

Mahaffey and Walsh teamed up at the number two doubles and defeated Cara Stough and Rachel Yurchisin, 9-7, while Azzalina and Lanciotti posted the same score over Tori Gray and Mitsuki Koh, at three.

In singles, Azzalina improved to 9-2 on the season and won the 29th match of her career with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Koh at three and Mahaffey picked up her seventh win this year and the 24th of her career by defeating Gray, 6-3, 6-3, at five.  Walsh remained undefeated in singles with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Yurchisin at four, 6-3, 6-0, improving to 8-0 this year and 19-5 in her career.  Lanciotti is now 7-4 this season and 15-6 in her career after a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jacklyn Renninger at six.

Also recording a win in singles for the Royals today was senior Devon Cohen (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), who turned back Megan Phillips, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 at two to bring her season record to 6-5 and 27-29 in her career.
