Senior James
Dalkiewicz (Shavertown, Pa./Lake-Lehman) pulled out a
three-set victory at No. 6 singles and fellow seniors David Teres
(Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Brian Williams
(Madison, N.J./Madison) won a hard-fought match at No. 1
doubles to lead The University of Scranton men's tennis team to a
5-4 victory over Moravian on Wednesday at Royal Courts.
Dalkiewicz edged Moravian freshman Dan Schmucker (Newton,
N.J./Kittatinny Regional), 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 for the deciding point in
a key match for the Royals' playoff hopes. Scranton improved to 5-3
overall and, more importantly, 3-1 in Landmark Conference play. The
Royals are currently in third place with three conference matches
remaining.
Teres and Williams gave the Royals a 2-1 advantage after doubles
by winning, 9-8 (10-8), at No. 1 doubles. Teres continued his
strong play at No. 1 singles, rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 victory to
improve to 3-1 in conference play.
Scranton also received an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles from
sophomores Kevin Murphy
(Greenbelt, Md./Gonzaga College H.S.) and Michael
O'Malley (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers
Academy). And freshman David
Commender (Larchmont, N.Y./Iona Prep) posted a strong
6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Royals are back in action on Friday when they host Oneonta
State at 4 p.m. at Royal Courts.
