SCRANTON, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s
tennis team got two wins apiece from senior co-captain Megan Azzalina (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame),
junior Courtney Barron (New City, NY/Clarkstown
South), freshman Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown),
senior Nicole Mahaffey (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity), and
junior Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton
Preparatory) en route to a 9-0 victory over Oneonta St.
Tuesday at the Royal Courts.
Senior co-captain Lisa-Marie Lanciotti (Northport, NY/Northport)
also played a role in today’s win, teaming with Barron to
post a 9-7 victory over Samantha Butcher and Christine Santarsiero
at the number three doubles, as well as sophomore Emily
Machado (Fishkill, NY/Trinity), who defeated
Santarsiero at the number five singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Azzalina and Mahaffey recorded the 34th and 31st wins of their
careers in singles, respectively, by defeating Kelly Gochan, 6-0,
6-2, and Michelle Spencer, 6-1, 6-4, at two and three. Walsh
improved to 26-5 in her career with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Brynn
Sussman at one. Barron was also a straight-set victor in
singles, turning back Marina Salzano, 6-2, 6-2, to even her career
record at 5-5.
The Royals will return to action this Saturday, September 20,
against Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania, beginning
at 1:00 p.m.
