HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Four players each posted singles and doubles victories to lead The University of Scranton women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Juniata in the team's Landmark Conference opener on Sunday afternoon at Raffensperger Tennis Court.
Seniors Megan Azzalina (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) and Nicole Mahaffey (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity), junior Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) and freshman Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) had two wins apiece for the Royals (5-2, 1-0 Landmark).
Azzalina and Mahaffey got Scranton started with an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, and Walsh and Frattaroli followed with a hard-fought 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. All four then rolled to straight sets victories in singles play – Walsh won 6-1, 6-2 at no. 1 singles; Azzalina won 6-4, 6-2 at no. 2; Mahaffey was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at no. 3, and Frattaroli posted a 6-1, 7-6 win at no. 4.
The Royals will continue Landmark Conference play when they host Susquehanna on Wednesday, April 1, at 3:30 p.m. at Royal Courts.
