HAVERFORD, Pa.—The University of Scranton women’s lacrosse team scored three goals in the opening 19 minutes of play, but couldn’t muster another one the rest of the way, falling to Haverford College, 5-3, Wednesday evening.

Sophomore midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) led the Royals, now 0-2, with a goal and an assist and sophomore attacker Alexandra Alessi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) and senior midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) tallied a goal apiece.

Kerr gave the Royals their third and last lead of the night when she scored an unassisted goal late in the first half before Lausten tied it up with a goal off of a free position shot and Manetta followed with what turned out to be the game-winning goal with just 10 seconds remaining before intermission.  Grant scored the only goal in the second half when she tallied her sixth goal of the year off of a play set up by junior attacker Elyse Adler (San Mateo, Calif./Menlo School), who recorded her fourth assist of the season.

Haverford held a 20-13 advantage in shots and a 26-16 margin in ground balls.

Royal senior goalkeeper Emily Towey (Abington, Pa./Abington) finished with a game-high 10 saves while Haverford’s Megan Chenworth (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) was credited with seven.

Goss’s goal was her first of the season and the 136th of her career for Scranton, which will host Buffalo St. in its home opener this Saturday, March 7, at 3:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
