Freshman midfielder Erin Pfail (Garden City, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) had four goals in her first collegiate game, and sophomore midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) added three as The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the season with a 13-7 win over Buffalo State on Friday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field.
After missing the first two games of the season with an injury, Pfail wasted little time making her mark for the Royals (1-2), scoring 1:02 into the game to give Scranton a 2-0 lead after Kerr had scored. Pfail added three more second-half goals as the Royals held off a rally by the Bengals (1-1).
Kerr scored once in the first half and twice in the second, including the final goal that put the game away with a little more than two minutes to play.
Senior midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) and freshman midfielder Dana Siepietowski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) both had a goal and an assist, and the Royals received a goal apiece from junior midfielder Erin Allen (Syosset, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy Academy), sophomore attackers Alyssa Farrell (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and Alexandra Alessi (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area), and freshman midfielder Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy).
Senior goalkeeper Emily Towey (Abington, Pa./Abington) made eight saves in goal, including a trio of tough stops in the second half to thwart the Buffalo State rally.
Scranton held a 31-20 advantage in shots and held a 15-7 edge in draw controls.
The Royals are back in action on Tuesday, March 10, when they host Misericordia at 4 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
