RADNOR, Pa. – The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team scored three straight goals midway through the second half to cut its deficit in half, but could not keep the momentum in a 13-7 loss to Cabrini on Wednesday evening at Dixon Field.
Scranton (6-8) received two goals from sophomore midfielder Meghan Kerr (Warwick, N.Y./John S. Burke Catholic) and a goal and an assist from freshman midfielder Erin Pfail (Garden City, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy).
Cabrini (12-7) scored three straight goals early in the game to take a 3-1 lead and scored the final three goals of the half to take a 7-4 lead into the break after Scranton had pulled even on a goal by freshman midfielder Kailyn Angelo (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy).
The Cavaliers stretched the advantage to 10-4 with three straight goals to start the second half – making it a six-goal stretch – but Scranton answered with three straight of its own. Kerr and freshman midfielder Lindsey Tattory (Robbinsville, N.J./Notre Dame) started the run and Pfail capped it with a goal on a free position shot.
But Cabrini tightened up its defense and held Scranton scoreless over the final 14 minutes while scoring the game's final three goals.
The Royals also received a goal from sophomore midfielder Nikole Sullivan (Sparkill, N.Y./Tappan Zee). Angelo finished with five ground balls and four draw controls.
Cabrini held a 31-22 edge in shots and also had a 12-10 advantage in draw controls.
Scranton plays its regular season finale on Saturday when it hosts Catholic in a Landmark Conference contest at 4 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
