BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Junior Emily Machado (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), freshman Anika Pornpitaksuk (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) and sophomore Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) both posted singles and doubles wins to lead The University of Scranton women's tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Pratt Institute on Sunday afternoon.
The Royals (2-0) won two doubles matches to take an early lead, then rolled to victory in five of the six singles matches to take the match.
Machado teamed with Pornpitaksuk for an 8-0 win at no. 2 doubles, while Jakubek paired with junior Maura Tyrrell (Chester, N.Y./Academy of St. Elizabeth) for their own 8-0 win at no. 3 doubles.
Machado and Jakubek later each added 6-0, 6-0 singles wins, Machado's coming at no. 4 and Jakubek's at no. 5. Pornpitaksuk was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at no. 2 singles.
Scranton also received a 6-1, 6-0 win at no. 3 singles from sophomore Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and a 6-2, 6-0 win at no. 6 singles from senior Courtney Barron (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South).
The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Gwynedd, Pa. to take on Gwynedd Mercy at 4 p.m.
