GWYNEDD, Pa. – Senior Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) and sophomore Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) teamed for a doubles victory and posted singles wins to lead The University of Scranton women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday afternoon.
The Royals (3-0) remained unbeaten this fall while also receiving a singles victory from senior Courtney Barron (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and a doubles win from the team of sophomore Anika Pornpitaksuk (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) and Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep).
Walsh and Frattaroli got Scranton on the board with an 8-2 victory at no. 1 singles, and Pornpitaksuk and Jakubek followed with an 8-3 victory at no. 2 doubles. Walsh then went out and posted an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win at no. 1 singles. Frattaroli was nearly as good, winning 6-1, 6-4 at no. 3 singles. And Barron picked up an 8-2 win at no. 5 singles.
The Royals will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19, when they head to Oneonta, N.Y. to take on Oneonta State at 12 p.m.
