GENEVA, N.Y. -- Senior Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) had a singles victory while the doubles duo of junior Emily Machado (Fishkill, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) and sophomore Anika Pornpitaksuk (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) had a victory for The University of Scranton women's tennis team at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional on Saturday at William & Smith College.
Walsh dropped her opening match, but battled back for an 8-1 victory over Taylor Thormahlen of Rochester Institute of Technology in the consolation bracket.
Machado and Pornpitaksuk opened the day by pulling out an 8-6 victory over Ellen Plowman and Ayaka Yoshino of Elmira College in the first round. They dropped their second-round match, 8-1, to Cat Crummey and Marylen Santos to fall into the consolation bracket.
Pornpitaksuk and sophomore Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) also competed in the singles draw, but both lost opening-round and consolation matches.
Walsh will be back in action in the singles consolation bracket while Machado and Pornpitaksuk will try to battle back in the doubles consolation bracket when play continues Sunday morning at William & Smith.
