Senior Emily Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) earned wins in singles and doubles play, but The University of Scranton women's tennis team lost a tight one against Wilkes on Wednesday night, 5-4, at Royal Courts.
Walsh teamed with sophomore Julia Frattaroli (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) for a 9-7 victory at no. 1 doubles, then went out and rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at no. 1 singles. She now has 41 career singles victories, tied for fifth in program history, and 35 career doubles wins, fourth-most in program history.
The no. 3 doubles team of senior Courtney Barron (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and freshman Emilia Jakubek (Honesdale, Pa./Scranton Prep) picked up a 9-7 victory. And the Royals also received a win at no. 2 singles from sophomore Anika Pornpitaksuk (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis), who was a 6-4, 6-4 winner.
The Royals have completed the fall portion of their schedule and will continue their season in the spring.
