Men's Tennis Suffers 7-2 Setback to Springfield in Spring Opener

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Scranton men's tennis team opened the Spring portion of their 2016 schedule on Friday afternoon, and the Royals dropped a 7-2 decision to Springfield as part of their Spring Break trip in Orlando, Florida.

With the defeat, Scranton is now 0-2 overall, while Springfield improved to 3-3 with the win.

In the match, Springfield was able to capture all three doubles matches, then singles competition in spots one through four.

Scranton, however, did take both singles matches in the five and six spots on the lineup.

At number five, freshman Brian Harkins (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win, while at number six, fellow freshman Charles Swope (Malvern, Pa./Great Vallley) was a 6-2, 6-4 winner.

The University of Scranton men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday, continuing their trip in Orlando with a match against Nichols. Things get underway at 3 p.m.
